Interview with Aly & Fila (2012)Interview with Aly & Fila (2012)

Aly & Fila, what can we say about them? Legends, wave makers, trendsetters, super stars? All that and more is what describes this formidable pair that have been dominating the Trance scene for years.

Name a label that’s worth being associated with and they’ve had their name on it, name an event that’s worth playing at and they’ve played it and probably more than once!

This February sees Aly & Fila hit the UK for Goodgreef’s return to Tall Trees alongside Paul Oakenfold.

Thanks guys for taking the time to talk to us! Are you looking forward to Goodgreef?
No problem, really looking forward to play Tall Trees and Goodgreef again.

Have you played with Paul Oakenfold in the UK before?
Never in the UK, but played several times worldwide.

We’ve spotted you’ve got a new compilation coming out at the end of February entitled "Future Sounds of Egypt Volume 2". Tell us a little bit about it; is it just featuring tracks from you and your label?
It’s the 2nd Volume of our FSOE compilation series on Armada Music. Will feature tracks not just off our label. It is released end of February.

You’re known for very emotion lead trance music, what got you guys into it in the first place and what other music do you listen to?
Originally, Paul Van Dyk was our inspiration, listening to music and mixes from him, Chicane, Thrillseekers inspired us also, other music, hmm generally what’s on radio when I’m driving.

Have you always stayed true to your sound or ever deviated… and maybe regretted it?
No we have no regrets in the route we have taken with our music

Producing as a pair must have its ups and downs! Do you ever disagree?
Of course there is bound to be something which we might not agree on, but never anything serious, after so many years we know each others strengths in the studio and bounce off each other

What’s due out from you guys in 2012 and from your label?
From an Album point of view, we have FSOE Volume 2 coming out and our 2nd Artist album in the summer, singles and remixes and lots of different releases on the label.

Do you have any New Years Resolutions?
Be happy, work hard

Your success within the Top 100 DJs poll run by DJ Mag has yet again seen you in the top 25, have you noticed the insurgence of more house stars and the decline in trance names? Do you think it’s a sign of the times?
All forms of dance music deserve respect, but, Trance Family is so big worldwide, with the help of the internet, different radio shows, DJs, releases, Trance will always remain strong

What territory do you think trance is most successful in nowadays?
South America is really doing well, Russia, Australia, UK of course always popular, Asia, everywhere really.

Having been in the industry for as long as you have, there must be a few things that grate on you, can you name some?
Travelling J, but it’s all worth it when you see the faces of the clubbers

Goodgreef celebrated their 11th year in 2011, a tough task in this climate; do you think the days of the Superclub are over?
Hmmm that’s a good question, the brands are still strong, but on a weekly basis, has changed, more monthly events now than weekly

Now we’ve asked the Goodgreefers what they’d like to know about you, so here are some questions from the fans!

Fsoe Manners - Where did you get the inspiration to make We Control The Sunlight?
The fans worldwide inspire us

Baz Whitehouse - Which can swim faster, a dog or a horse?
Dog (as its normally smaller), unless like the horse off the film War Horse, that horse could run through a brick wall

Jack Hart - Who are Aly & Fila" as people, not just DJs?
2 guys who love everyday things, food, friends, family, loved ones, etc etc

Adam Laws - If you could set a vicious pack of honey badgers on anyone famous, who would it be and why?
Hmm, don’t really dislike anyone famous

Luke Hood - What was the first trance track that grabbed your attention?
Hmmm long time ago, maybe PVD – For an Angel

Thanks for your time guys and we can’t wait to see you at Tall Trees!
Likewise, lets party!

You can see Aly & Fila on February 4th at Goodgreef Tall Trees!
